Collage Philadelphia, a newly-formed collective of collage artists in the Greater Philadelphia region, presents its first group exhibition at The Look Listen. Featuring collage pieces from more than 50 local artists, the Collage Philadelphia show is believed to be one of the largest gatherings of collage works by Philadelphia artists ever.

The aim of Collage Philadelphia is to host exhibitions, hold meetups among artists, and facilitate greater-good projects. The organization is set on being a player in the national collage scene and fostering a new generation of artists in the Greater Philadelphia area.

“I’m excited about the future of this artform in Philadelphia, and that Collage Philadelphia’s first show will feature so many different works from such a creative and growing group,” said Jake Dombroski, founder of Collage Philadelphia. “There’s such a body of talent here in Philly, and having historical roots to this genre of art, it just feels right to celebrate this community and propel it forward through collective action and visibility.”

Philadelphia is rich in history when it comes to the world of collage. The city is the birthplace of legendary photographer and collage artist Man Ray and is home to one of the largest Marcel Duchamp collections in the United States.

This exhibition at The Look Listen is the first major event curated by Collage Philadelphia, with palpable excitement from the larger community. Twisted Gingers, a local brewery, is crafting a special Collage Philadelphia IPA to celebrate the occasion, with AIGA Philadelphia also as a noted sponsor.

“The collage scene in Philly runs deep and I believe Collage Philadelphia is poised to cultivate the recognition and support these artists deserve. Being able to host this organization’s first exhibition and help amplify these artists’ works means a lot,” said Mike Starosciak, owner and director of The Look Listen.
