Mesmereyez is a group exhibition featuring a trio of Philadelphia artists working in bold, expressive styles. With a combination of hypnotic abstractions, street style messaging and Basquiat-inspired iconography, this collection taps into our world’s vibrant, chaotic energy. Simultaneously, our eyes are shown a path towards inner peace and harmony.
In the upstairs gallery, Andromeda Cook’s collection of large canvases presents multiple visual identities. Abstract paint pours are full of vibrant colors and energy, yet also create a sense of peaceful wonder. Harmonizing visuals of the Flower of Life and Hamsa are given center stage and demonstrate the interconnectedness in all things. Nods to Jean-Michel Basquiet are peppered throughout, including a work directly inspired by “Hollywood Africans.”
On the entry floor, Solo’s mixed media abstract art is a playful and energetic exploration of chaos. Her paintings, on stretched and unstretched canvases, are full of vivid colors, text, and symbols, and they create a sense of excitement and movement. This is art that is full of strength, good vibes, and positivity.
Molly Creamer provides two pairs of works with smoothly-lined female figures atop energetic, abstract backgrounds. While the visual form is beautifully simplified, a comprehension and depth of the subjects are gleaned from the somewhat chaotic environments that shine through.
